Christmas came early - and already saved me money

Escort Passport iQ Widescreen Navigator

The Passport IQ has helped make my drives so stress-free! It cleans up my dash; helps me avoid getting an unexpected ticket - with a really pleasant chime (although the standard audible warning is also available - you choose); and I LOVE the map/nav.

In addition to providing me the best radar detection - as expected from Escort - with very few false alarms, the IQ gives me speed limit data AND warns me when I accidentally drift too far above the speed limit! I also like having the speed camera and speed trap data to remind me to be careful. The navigation does a great job getting me to my location - the graphics are tremendous and easy to read at a quick glance, and it's VERY easy to use. The directions I get are very logical and easy to follow.

The unit is a bit bigger than the typical GPS unit, but I like the bigger screen.

As I said in the title, I just love my Passport IQ. If you want a single device that helps take the stress out of your drive so you can enjoy getting to where you need to be...this is it!

Finally, a navigation device with an integrated radar detector! Not just any radar detector, the top-of-the-line Passport 9500ix is in the IQ. That means it learns and eliminates false alerts plus it will alert to cameras. Including the 9500ix makes it on the expensive side but at least you aren't giving up any radar detector features which is what I was afraid of when I heard of the IQ.

Detection distance is the same as my old 9500ix which has been great, always giving me plenty of warning. What is really neat is that when in Detector view mode you can visually see multiple radar alerts along with their strength and frequency. I haven't seen any other detector offer this level of information. TrueLock easily learns and stores the falses so it will not alert to them again. What I really like is that now I can visually see the stored falses on the screen when it detects them but it will not alert to them. I have seen 4 signals with varying strengths on the screen at once, this is great technology!

Navigation has been very easy to set up and the directions it gives are easy to understand and follow. It has many stores and restaurants in its database, every one that I entered. I simply entered the name of the store, selected "area near me now" and it gave me the route there. Easy enough. It did a great job with address numbers too when I traveled out of town over Thanksgiving. The IQ never got me lost and its 5 inch screen with large buttons was easy to use. Another feature is its speed limit information which covered all the main roads around me. You can set it to alert you if you reach certain speeds and you can also set it to not give you a full radar alert unless you travel at a certain speed over the speed limit. This came in real handy.

To top it off the IQ looks like a GPS device, not a radar detector at all.

The Passport IQ is a great all-in-one device, highly recommended.

All these people giving such negative reviews about the GPS function are very misleading. I went ahead and bought this unit even after being hesitant after reading the other reviews, and I do not know what kind of expectations they had, but the GPS function works well, it is intuitive, and the touch screen is easy to navigate.

I have a Garmin GPS too, and there is not a big difference between the two. Overall it is a pretty solid little unit and offers most of the same features the Garmin does. e.g. search around me for restaurants, gas, etc. the ability to store destinations, audio directions. One neat little feature is the ability to easily mark locations, so you can add speed cameras or whatever you wish.

The unit is a little bigger than the flat screen Garmin style GPSs but not a lot and you have to realize there is a lot of technology stuffed into this little box.

Lastly, lets not loose track that this is a radar detector with a GPS built into it, not a GPS with a radar detector.

Five stars! It delivers what is promises with a few extra little perks.

Just got the iQ as a gift before our big trip. In short, I could not be happier with the set up and operation of the unit. The functionality and user interface are well thought out and work very well. The GPS found each location, and the five inch screen feels like the perfect size for easy glances to get info.

I especially like the speed limit info. You can set it for how close you want to travel to the speed limit. It will automatically warn you when you exceed your set limit. The iQ already saved me a ticket when the freeway speed limit changed (I missed the sign) and suddenly I was was 24 over the limit. Heard the warning, clicked off cruise, and we were all good.

The only complaint was it took some extra time to get the unit. Customer service tracked it and kept us well informed. Our guess was they have been slammed with orders.

I no longer need my 9500iX nor my Garmin. My wife has now enherited both and is jealous of the iQ.

I think this is a genius idea, 2 in 1 GPS Navigational Radar Detector System. One of the best features I have found on this wonderful piece of equiptment is the speed alert. I have a heavy foot at times on the gas peddle. This device is very helpful in reminding me to slow down when going over the speed I have set in the device, that alone will help me out with avoiding speeding tickets besides the fact of it having a radar system inside of it as well. The 5 star reviews of the Passport iQ were helpful in me deciding this purchase. I advise to anyone who is interested in radar detectors or navigational system to visit the website at [...].

I love this product, from its detector system to its GPS system. It works perfectly with my ZR4 to jam the radar and laser and at the same time it displays the GPS along with my car's built-in GPS system and adds the speed and directions to it. A Perect choice.

This is my second Escort radar. The first one was the 9500ix which I loved very much. But between the 9500ix my TomTom GO720 and my Sirius. it was getting too cluttered on my dash. The Passport IQ is working out very good so far. I love it but the only down fall is the suction mount. In my opinion it need to be stronger so it will hold the weight of it on the window. What I did to fix that was get a bean bag for the dash and it stays there perfectly with no problem.

I have now bought my third Passport IQ unit for our third family car. In one of the vhicles I drive thousands of miles monthly around the Pacific Northwest. The other two vehicles are just driven in Northern California.

I love the fact that this is an integrated unit. Less dashboard clutter. The radar sensitivity is as good as my Escort top of the line Redline unit, outstanding. The radar software also filters out those annoying K-band roadside speed limit warnings, a "must have" feature if you drive through a lot of construction areas like I do. The GPS unit, with its familiar Garmin-Navteq maps is just as effective as the Garmin 1400 series it replaces in my vehicles. In fact I found it more accurate in displaying speed limits, something the regular Garmin units do poorly. The Passport IQ unit did show an ocassional erroneous turn, usually coming out of a reststop or restaurant, errors also found in the stand-alone Garmin units it replaced. However, with the Passport IQ I could "mark" the error on the screen for next-time alerting to avoid the GPS instructions(see below).

The Passport IQ allows you to "mark" anything on the road with a screen button push, so that the next time you drive by that location it will alert the driver to the marked spot. I have marked locations countless times to alert me to sudden speed limit changes, observed speed traps, upcoming reststops, and truckstops. An innovative and very useful feature in my opinion. There are also many other ways to customize the screen display. But that's not all. The Passport IQ also sounds audible overspeed warnings, like Tom Tom GPS units do, a feature that's alerted me when I get in my highway driving "zone", listening to an audible book and foot heavy on the accelerator.

An entirely separate set of screens in this unit are dedicated to the radar detector. These allow you to pick various combination of speed displays and colors, as well as metering options for the radar displays. I use this feauture all the time to verify my odometer readings, especially when I first put it in the car. This ascertains that the tire size is the right one for the odometer readout; or, in the case of new over- or under-sized tires, that the car's computer has been reset for the new tire size.

The only negative is that the unit is a little clunky and clumsy to afix to a dash or window mount. I found that the best solution is to use the suction cup window mount in the corner of the windshield, and that works fine.

This is an exceptional solution for the driver that needs radar detection and GPS. Highly recommended.

It's like having a GPS and radar protection all in one! Saves on having to buy 2 separate systems and save space.
